Lap records
The author lap is the benchmark every star on this circuit is measured from — the fastest lap anyone has set here, driven flat out. The track record is the quickest time on the board right now.

Star times
Three stars, struck from the author lap. One star for the bronze time, two for gold, and the third means you matched the fastest lap ever driven here.

Going faster here
The author lap averages 964 km/h across 16.25 km — above the car’s own top speed, which only happens when both nitro charges are spent somewhere that was already quick. There are 60 boost pads on this lap; each one is worth more on a straight than into a corner. With nothing tighter than a 311-metre radius, the lap rewards staying flat rather than braking early.
Every race puts a full grid of recorded laps alongside you, and once you have set a time you race the ghost of your own best run as well. Beating your own ghost is the usual route from one star to the next.
